For the past 20 years, Union County Public Schools has chosen one teacher each year as the best of the best.
This year, Kerri Sofsian, a first-grade teacher at Kensington Elementary School, has won the top teacher title for the 2013-14 school year.
Sofsian was named during Thursday's (April 25, 2013) UCPS Teacher of the Year Banquet. She said she was very surprised when she heard her name called. “I’ve been in various teachers’ classrooms and I know how good they are,” she said. “It’s really hard to believe that I could be at the top of that caliber.”
Union County Public Schools, in partnership with the Union County Education Foundation, is proud to announce the 1st Annual UCEF Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament. This event will be held at Rolling Hills Country Club on Monday, May 20th, 2013. Two “flights” of teams will play. The first flight tees off at 8:00 with lunch, gifts and prizes to follow play. The second flight starts with lunch at noon and a 1:30 tee time for the teams. Players should be sure to denote which start time they prefer when registering.
The Union County Education Foundation has awarded 17 teachers from 15 different UCPS schools Teacher and Classroom Mini-Grants worth more than a total of $7,000. The Foundation "Prize Patrol" surprised the teachers in their classrooms with festive balloons and a "big" check.
The Union County Education Foundation has received its largest gift to date from Union Power Cooperative. The grant was made possible through the partnership of Union Power Cooperative, the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives and Co-Bank. The grant will be used to establish a special fund within the Foundation to further educate rising high school seniors in Union County about Cooperatives and the cooperative
